What is Tarecpir?

Tarecpir
high performance process insulation offers the most comprehensive range of preformed insulation system and ancillary products for the cryogenic, low and dual temperature applications in the LNG, Petrochemical, Process Industries and is suitable for a wide spectrum of other applications.
These products have been developed to provide the most thermally efficient insulation system available together with superior fire and smoke performance and a close cell structure that effectively eliminates the risk of moisture penetration.
Tarecpir
is available in four options (Tarecpir
M1-CR, Tarecpir
B2, Tarecpir
HT and Tarecpir
HD) and has been developed and optimised with an enhanced property for a specific demanding application.

Tarecpir
M1-CR Insulation
Tarecpir
M1-CR has been developed for industrial process, building and cryogenic applications where excellent fire performance, enhanced compressive strength and superior resistance to thermal stress are required. Tarecpir
M1-CR is available for pipe work and flat sheet applications.
Tarecpir
B2 Insulation
Tarecpir
B2 (improved thermal efficiency) is recommended for building services where increased thermal efficiency is priority.
Tarecpir
HT (High Temperature) Tarecpir
HT has been specially formulated for use on process pipework and equipment operating at continuous working temperatures up to +200°C / 392°F and will not deteriorate when pipework is steam cleaned. When used at high temperatures the insulation maintains its closed cell content, dimensional stability and thermal performance throughout its in service life. In addition to being used as an independent insulation layer, Tarecpir
HT normally serves as a temperature barrier often combined with a layer of Tarecpir
M1-CR.
Tarecpir
HD (High Density Load Bearing)
Tarecpir
HD is specially modified to withstand high compressive forces. Tarecpir
HD is available in a range of densities up to 320 kg/m³ / 20.0 lb/ft³ and is particularly suited to load bearing applications, which makes it an ideal material for insulated pipe support inserts.
Tarecpir
HD is suitable for even the largest pipe diameters, eliminating the requirement for alternative materials with poor insulating qualities (e.g. resin impregnated wood) in the fabrication of pipe support inserts.
All Tarecpir
rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation materials used in the System are CFC/HCFC–free with zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and are manufactured to the highest quality standards under a quality control system approved to ISO 9001: 2008 (Quality Management Systems. Requirements).

Complete Insulation System from one source
The Tarecpir
Process Insulation System is a complete thermal insulation system designed for cryogenic, low and dual temperature applications.
The main components of the System comprise Tarecpir
rigid polyisocyanurate insulation, the secondary vapour barrier, the primary vapour barrier and a layer protecting from mechanical and weather damage as required.
A comprehensive range of pre -formed insulation and ancillary products is available for pipework, vessels and equipment.
The essential technical requirements of an efficient cryogenic, low and dual temperature thermal insulation system include:
• accurately cut and fabricated close fitting insulation;
• closely butted and sealed offset joints;
• a continuous, fully sealed and durable vapour barrier; and protection from mechanical and
weather damage.

Fabrication Excellence
As much as possible of the work involved in the fabrication of the Tarecpir
Process Insulation System is carried out in the factory where working conditions are conducive to the highest standards of production and quality control.
The use of sophisticated computer aided design and cutting technologies enables Kingspan Tarec Industrial Insulation to offer a comprehensive range of accurately cut and milled pre-formed insulation for pipework, vessels and equipment.
The Tarecpir
range of insulation materials is available in an unlimited variety of shapes and forms including:
• blocks / buns;
• slab;
• radiussed and bevelled lags;
• pre-formed half-sections and segments for pipework, process vessels and storage tanks;
• pre-formed insulation for bends, T-pieces, reducers, flange and valve boxes; and
• three dimensional shapes customised to the exact specification of the client.

Temperature range
Tarecpir
is a rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation material with a high strength to density ratio. Its enhanced compressive strength combined with its ability to maintain its elasticity and to resist cracking at low temperatures, makes it an ideal insulation material for extremely demanding applications operating within the temperature range of -200°C to +200°C / -328°F to +392°F.

Thermal Performance
Tarecpir
has a thermal conductivity as low as 0.026 W/m·K / 0.18 Btu·in/hr·ft²·°F.
A low thermal conductivity allows specified thermal performance standards to be achieved with a minimal thickness of insulation. This is particularly significant where space saving is important. A thinner insulant can facilitate installation in confined spaces.
Furthermore, it can often result in a lower surface area and therefore savings in finishing materials and if the thickness remains uniform, heat losses / gains are minimised.
Tarecpir
is manufactured using a continuous production process to produce blocks / buns of insulation. Tarecpir
is manufactured to the highest quality standards under a quality control system approved to EN ISO 9001: 2008.
Tarecpir
has been developed since the early 1970's and has since become synonymous with specifications for high quality thermal insulation in the global petrochemical, cryogenic and LNG / LPG industries.
The endurance characteristics and the quality of the polymer strongly influence the thermal performance of the insulant over time. Tarecpir
has been specially developed with highly durable polymers to resist the effects of thermal stresses, material ageing, moisture degradation and deterioration by other means.
As a result, Tarecpir
is one of the most thermally efficient insulation materials commonly available by virtue of the endurance characteristics and the quality of the polymer. It retains its thermal performance under the most severe operating conditions over the life of the installation.

Moisture resistance
Tarecpir
has a 90% (or greater) closed cell content, which makes it non–wicking and highly resistant to moisture penetration. This is particularly valuable in humid conditions where the build up of moisture can compromise the performance of lesser insulation materials. It is an ideal insulation material for cryogenic, low and dual temperature applications.
When used in conjunction with a vapour tight facing, Tarecpir
provides a system which is totally moisture resistant.

Fire performance
Tarecpir
is a thermoset material. When subjected to fire, its outer surface forms a strong carbonaceous layer that retards further flame spread and penetration. Unlike thermoplastic materials, Tarecpir
does not melt or produce flaming droplets when exposed to fire.
The behaviour of Tarecpir
when subjected to fire can be attributed to the:
• behaviour of the polymer when in contact with fire; and
• fire properties of the blowing agent.
Tarecpir
satisfies the requirements of major industrial specifications. It achieves excellent results when tested for fire performance. For example, Tarecpir
M1-CR has a Flame Spread Index of < 25 when tested to ASTM E 84, and the results achieved when tested to BS 476–6: 1989 and BS 476–7: 1997, enables a Class 0 classification.
